We are a long-standing partner of Yorkshire Water, delivering their capital improvement programmes.
Newly-appointed to the AMP7 framework, we previously carried out an number of significant projects under the previous AMP6. Work included medium treatment works (involving capital projects on sewerage and water treatment plants), other installation projects and large schemes.
One of the major projects was the upgrade of Bolton-upon-Dearne waste water treatment works in South Yorkshire. Necessary for compliance with ammonia standards, the work included a new elevated inlet works and tertiary treatment plant as well as refurbishment of some existing process units.
The tertiary treatment process features a pioneering Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR). Similar to the more conventional activated sludge plant, the MBBR includes small plastic discs which support the bacteria that help treat the water. The discs are spun around by air bubbles which enable the bacteria to ‘breath’. The main advantage of the MBBR is that it takes up less space than traditional treatment systems.
The process element of the project has been directed by our Technical Services business. It provides design services to the Environment business unit and the wider Galliford Try businesses wherever there is a need for chemical, electrical, mechanical or BIM engineering design input.
