The Wolverhampton station project is the first phase of a masterplan to create an integrated transport hub as the gateway to the city.
A high-profile project for Wolverhampton Council and its developer partner, Ion Developments, the new station is the anchor around which a £150m programme is based.
The project, procured through the North West Construction Hub, is seeing the creation of a new entrance hall and ticketing area as well as the inclusion of new retail units, providing a revitalised focal point for the station. In addition to the new passenger areas, entirely new workspaces have been created for the train operating companies, Network Rail and British Transport Police.
Extensive collaboration with the many stakeholders involved placed significant challenges on the project team, who successfully met the regulatory requirements and worked with the client to develop the design to meet the desired outcome.
