The One Great Cumberland Place redevelopment, previously know as 1-4 Marble Arch, in London’s West End is a prime example of a historic building being brought into the modern age.

The £64m project, which was delivered on behalf of the Portman Estate, achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating and represented the second major scheme completed for The Portman Estate by Galliford Try's Building London team, following the 1-9 Seymour Street project which was completed in 2018.

Galliford Try’s London South East business retained the original façade while completely replacing the remainder of the structure and adding a second basement level.

In place of the old internal structure, a new structural steel frame was built, which rises from the sub-basement to the roof. The building contains 123,766 sqft of space over 11 storeys, including three floors for retail areas and seven floors of commercial office space.

The Project Director for 1-4 Marble Arch, Barry Kingscote, won the Construction Manager of the Year award from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) for his work on the project.

Additionally, the project earned the Steel Award at the Schüco Excellence Awards 2024 and Judges praised the project for its clear-sighted vision, meticulous attention to detail, expert use of Jansen steel systems, and high-quality execution.
