Galliford Try's Building East Midlands team undertook a new build state-of-the-art decontamination unit for the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, to meet endoscopy demand.
The standalone two-storey Endoscopy Decontamination Unit at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester provides a logical and efficient layout according to the clinical requirements, with a central processing area surrounded by utility and staff support accommodation. The new unit will help to meet an increase in demand for gastrointestinal endoscopy in the UK due to emphasis on early diagnosis and better uptake of screening.
The endoscopes used in the procedures require specialist washing between treatments, with the new expanded facility replacing the previous decentralised cleaning facilities. The project has improved the existing services by centralising the decontamination facilities into a single, state-of-the-art location, with increased cleaning capacity, service resilience, and potential for future expansion.
