The Building North West team were appointed under the ProCure22 framework, to undertake a transformational redevelopment of emergency care services at the Countess of Chester Hospital, delivering increased capacity, improved efficiency, and better outcomes for patients.
The first of the two projects delivered for the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, involved remodelling the emergency department. The new layout includes a main reception, dedicated paediatric reception, waiting area, central nurse base, and associated treatment cabins.
Working closely with the Trust, Galliford Try optimised the design to increase capacity, maximise patient flow and ultimately improve the user experience. We completed the works while the unit was fully operational, with zero disruption, complaints, or accidents. The revised layout saves the Trust up to £1m each year in staff costs.
The second project involved construction of a same day emergency care unit at the entrance to the emergency department. The new unit provides 38 single bays with supporting consultation rooms and diagnostics. We worked with the Trust in optimising the design to complement the newly redeveloped emergency department. The completed facility provides a flexible space where staff from various departments are brought together to form multidisciplinary teams, delivering the best possible care for patients.
The two projects have transformed urgent care provision at Chester, providing a more efficient delivery model, increased capacity, and a vastly improved service for patients.
