Representatives from Galliford Try attended the official opening of Ysgol Gymraeg St Baruc, a low carbon Welsh-medium primary school in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

Delivered in partnership with the Welsh Government through their Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, Ysgol Gymraeg St Baruc will provide 420 places to accommodate the increase of parents choosing Welsh medium education.

Members of Galliford Try’s Building West Midlands and South West team were joined by Councillor Rhianon Birch, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Education, Arts and the Welsh Language and Jeremy Miles, Welsh Government Minister for Welsh Language.

The state-of-the-art facility features a series of low carbon features, including solar panels, onsite battery storage, air source heat pumps, underfloor heating and electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

In addition, the sport facilities will include MUGAs (Multi Use Games Areas), grass pitches, and a small training field, which will be accessible to local community clubs and recreational use for family learning at all levels, as well as habitat areas for the promotion of wildlife.

Simon Courtney, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West, commented: “It’s great to see Ysgol Gymraeg St Baruc receive its official opening and we hope the staff and students will benefit from the brand-new facilities.

“As part of our role in renewing and expanding schools across the country, the redevelopment of Ysgol Gymraeg St Baruc will contribute significantly to the progressive learning of Welsh speakers in the area.”
