The new £8.5m Lancaster University School of Maths (LUSoM) has opened its doors for the first time, with the occasion marked by a special ceremony.
The new school will deliver a world-class education in mathematics for students aged 16-18 in a modern, inclusive and inspiring learning environment. LUSoM will aim to deliver an exceptional A-Level education in mathematics to the region’s most able mathematic students.
The ceremony was attended by MPs Cat Smith and Sir Mark Hendrick, with the ribbon being cut by the Mayor of Preston.
The school’s Headmaster, Peter Tiltman, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we have such amazing facilities here in Preston, all dedicated to the study of maths and science.
“We are looking for young people with an aptitude and a passion for maths and science to come and study with us, benefitting from the world-class teaching we offer, allied with the support of Cardinal Newman College and the links to Lancaster University.”
