Galliford Try celebrated a cracking night of award wins at the Water Industry Awards and Constructing Excellence SECBE and East Midlands, taking home an impressive haul of five trophies.

Coming out tops at Constructing Excellence SECBE (South East Centre for the Built Environment) Awards was Building Southern’s project at HMP High Down Cat C men’s prison in Surrey, which claimed a hat-trick of prizes. Galliford Try designed and built the new DHL workshop which provides real-world work and training for 90 men at a time, and is integral to the Establishment’s overarching objective - to reduce reoffending through safe and effective rehabilitation and support. Delivered safely, on time, to budget, meeting the quality standards of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) building regulations, the scheme’s many successes, include achieving a BREEAM Outstanding rating - a first for a facility of this kind in the prison environment.

The project team claimed the Value award, Building Project of the Year under £10m, and People Development for its Construction Mentoring Partnering Scheme (CMPS), a flagship pilot scheme that has been a first for the prison where Galliford Try has engaged with prisoners, providing work experience and training on the live construction site.

Meanwhile our Building East Midlands region won the Integration and Collaborative Working Award at the Constructing Excellence East Midlands Awards for driving positive change, integrating the supply chain and satisfying all stakeholders for the Hybrid Theatre. The theatre at Royal Derby Hospital is set to improve care for people with life-threatening conditions along with new facilities for staff, utilities, and administration.

At the Water Industry Awards, organised by Utility Week, our Environment business enjoyed success scooping Natural Capital Initiative of the Year for its work with Severn Trent Water at Mansfield Sustainable Flood Resilience scheme. The team was praised for its efforts in leaving the environment in a better state than before, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and going above and beyond normal practice.

Meanwhile, regional HSE managers Dean Williams and Keith Dent, were chosen as finalists out of a record-breaking 800 nominations at the Ex-Forces in Business Awards and Morrison Construction’s Aberdeen and Winchburgh Sports and Wellbeing were finalists at the Scottish Design Awards.

Commenting on the wins, Bill Hocking, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, said: “What a momentous night for Galliford Try. I am immensely proud of these significant wins, which demonstrate the quality of people, our skills, attention to detail, collaborative working and drive to do real good in the world. Congratulations to all our teams, winners and finalists, for these this very well deserved recognition.”
