Galliford Try's Building Southern team celebrate topping out ceremony for mental health inpatient service for Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, located on the St Peter’s Hospital campus in Chertsey.
A ceremonial concrete infill was arranged with dignitaries including local; MP Dr Ben Spencer, the Mayor of Runnymede Cllr Shannon Saise-Marshall, the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, and representatives of Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, who demonstrated their mastery of a special commemorative trowel which will be buried in a time capsule on the site for future generations to discover.
The event marked an important phase for the £35m project, which will create a modern mental health inpatient service, featuring 64 bedrooms with en-suite facilities. In addition, the project includes communal areas, assisted bathrooms and associated support rooms, as well as therapeutic gardens and external courtyard spaces.
The scheme has social value at its heart, with over £760,000 worth of social value activity delivered so far with our main school and charity partners being Brooklands College, Cancer Research UK, and Rosamund Community Garden.
Richard Watts, Area Director for Galliford Try Building Southern, commented: “It was the perfect day to celebrate the topping out; clear blue skies and a real buzz of excitement from the people assembled, many of whom were involved years before we commenced on site.
This is a wonderful project for Galliford Try to deliver with the Trust and I am very much looking forward to completion and celebrating the opening of the new facility which will positively change lives for so many."
