Galliford Try’s Scott Findlay, Contracts Engineer for the Fabrications business, has been named a finalist in the Role Model of the Year category at the annual Scottish edition of the Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

Recognised as the world’s largest celebration of veterans successfully transitioning to civilian careers, the awards highlight the achievements of ex-service personnel who have excelled in their second careers.

Scott joined Galliford Try in 2019 as a Mechanical Supervisor and became a Contracts Engineer in 2024, overseeing steelwork installations for water treatment sites. His industry experience, combined with a Military background, makes him an invaluable team member.

Before Galliford Try, Scott served six years in the British Army with the Royal Dragoon Guards and specialised as a Sniper. He applies the discipline, leadership, and problem-solving skills from his military career to his civilian role. Scott remains an active reservist in the 6th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, as a Section Second in Command.

Galliford Try has proudly upheld its commitment to The Armed Forces Corporate Covenant since 2016, partnering with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to help Military leavers transition into civilian careers. In recognition of its ongoing support, the company has been awarded Silver status by the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) for its dedication to integrating the Armed Forces community into its recruitment processes.

Mark Shadrick, Managing Director, Galliford Try Environment, commented: “We are incredibly proud of Scott for being shortlisted for these prestigious awards. As an Ex-Services friendly organisation, we value the exceptional talent and strong values that veterans bring to the workplace. Scott’s journey is a testament to the impact veterans can have in civilian roles, and these awards are a fantastic opportunity to showcase the value this community adds across the country.”

Winners will be announced on 26 February at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow’s Grand Ballroom.
