Morrison Construction Building Central’s approach to creating social value through its projects has been recognised, after being named as one of the finalists for the Private Sector Leadership Award at the Social Value awards.
The business has created approximately £200m worth of social value during the past four years through a programme of community engagement, working with schools, colleges and local authorities to further the understanding of construction and promote local employment.
During that period, around £3.5m of local employment been created as result of the business’s activities, alongside a comprehensive programme of training and work experience that continued despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Morrison has utilised the Social Value Portal, which provides tools for businesses and other organisations to accurately measure the value and effectiveness of the programmes they have created. The Awards, which are part of the National Social Value Conference, recognise the achievements of organisations who are committed to improving Social Value outcomes.
Jim Johnstone, Morrison Construction Building Central’s Head of Communities and Social Impact, commented: “Creating social value is a key part of Galliford Try and Morrison Construction’s Sustainable Growth Strategy. We have been working for some time now on creating programmes that truly engage and give back to the communities we work in, so receiving this recognition is extremely gratifying.”
