Kim Downes, Quantity Surveyor for Galliford Try’s Environment business, has been shortlisted for Utility Week’s Rising Star of the Year award for her hard work and exemplary mentorship.
Starting as an Assistant Procurement Buyer in 2017, Kim quickly demonstrated her potential and was promoted to Trainee Quantity Surveyor, and later to Assistant Quantity Surveyor within the Environment business’s Thames Water framework team, while pursuing a BSc (Hons) in Construction and the Built Environment.
Now in her final year, Kim is set to pursue Chartership in Quantity Surveying. As well as working on key projects like the Crawley Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) initiative, and the Chessington pipeline, Kim has been responsible for mentoring and managing the day-to-day role of one of the Environment division’s graduate Quantity Surveyors as he successfully gained his degree.
Mark Shadrick, Managing Director for Galliford Try’s Environment business, said: "I am delighted that Kim has been nominated for this award which is a tremendous achievement in itself. As a people-orientated business, we aim to attract, develop and retain a highly talented workforce and Kim is testament to that. I look forward to the awards and wish her the best of luck.”
The Utility Week Awards are the industry’s celebration of the companies and individuals that are the very best in the water sector. Winners will be announced on 3 December at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
