Galliford Try sites across the country took part in the Open Doors initiative last week, which as the name suggests, opens the doors to our sites to students and the general public alike.
Open Doors aims to provide insight into how we operate our sites, how we work alongside our subcontractors and supply chain, and what a career in construction looks like.
The events took place across sites up and down the UK and across multiple business units. Members of site teams participated in presentations about career paths available, about the work they participate in, as well as giving an insight into their respective projects. Attendees were also given the opportunity to take part in site tours and see how a live site operates.
At the Stockport Exchange site for Building North West three groups of year 10 students had the opportunity to visit the project, where they were able to ask questions about the work being undertaken there, as well as the construction industry as a whole, before making their way up the roof to see the various types of tradespeople we employ and catch a glimpse of the impressive views of the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, in Scunthorpe another group of year 10 students, as well as a group from the local STEM college, visited the site of the former Scunthorpe Market for Building North East and Yorkshire, where once again they were able to ask questions and observe a live-site environment.
Bill Hocking, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, commented: “The Open Doors initiative is a fantastic opportunity for young people and the general public to observe what working in construction can mean, and to inspire them to join our incredible industry.
“I am delighted that those who attended enjoyed themselves, and I hope that the event will inspire more young people to consider a career in construction.”
