Galliford Try’s Building Southern business has been selected by the London Borough of Havering to deliver a new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school at Balgores Lane.

The new school, commissioned with the support of the Southern Construction Framework (SCF) and Playle and Partners will create 300 places for students aged four to 19, addressing critical SEND needs within the borough.

The school has been designed by Haverstock to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and is intended to be net zero carbon in operation.

Gavin Bridge, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building Southern, commented: "Our business has a strong track record in providing high-quality special educational needs and disability spaces across London and the South East. We recognise the urgency of providing local children with the tailored education they deserve and look forward to working with all the stakeholders involved at Balgores to create the very best facilities that help the school community deliver for the students.”

Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young people at Havering Council, said: "We are happy to be working with Galliford Try and Haverstock for the new SEND school at Balgores Lane. This project represents a significant investment in the future of our community, providing 300 much-needed places for students with special educational needs and disabilities. With a focus on sustainability and collaboration, this new school will not only meet the growing demand for specialist education but also serve as a valuable asset for the wider borough. We look forward to seeing this project come to life and make a positive impact on the lives of our young people.”

Work is scheduled to start on site in October 2025.
