Galliford Try has completed the redevelopment of 1-4 Marble Arch in London's West End, on behalf of The Portman Estate, and has now been awarded the job to complete the fit out of the new building.
The £64m project, which is set to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, was designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and saw the existing 1920s-built façade retained by means of a complex framework, followed by ‘top down’, floor-by-floor demolition.
In place of the old internal structure a new structural steel frame, rising from the sub-basement to the roof contains 123,766 sqft of space over 11 storeys, including three floors for retail areas and seven floors of commercial office space.
The project represents the second major scheme completed for The Portman Estate by Galliford Try's Building London team following 1-9 Seymour Street in 2018.
The success has now seen Galliford Try chosen to complete the Category B fit-out of floors two, three and eight within 1-4 Marble Arch on behalf of serviced office provider x+why, a partner of the Portman Estate.
Matthew Pool, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building London and South East Commercial, commented: “Having completed the redevelopment of such an outstanding building in an area with rich architectural heritage is extremely satisfying. During such a technically complex project, our teams excelled with precision at every step of the construction phase, we are excited to get work under way for the fit out which is scheduled for completion this summer.”
