Galliford Try’s Health, Safety and Environment team has been awarded the prestigious Princess Royal Training Award this year for its innovative Choose the Safe Path Virtual Reality (VR) training initiative.
The Princess Royal Training Awards delivered by City and Guilds Foundation, recognise and honour organisations that show exceptional commitment to learning and development by create engaging learning programmes for growing and retaining talent across the UK and Ireland.
The Choose the Safe Path and VR training for site safety scheme uses VR to focus on the prevention of falling objects. It comprises an interactive training package which provides employees with an authentic learning experience using real locations from Galliford Try sites and real actors from the team for the demonstration.
Since implementing the training, there has been a 50% reduction in high-risk accidents, and two additional VR modules are now bring introduced.
Nimesh Patel, Head of Health, Safety and Environment for Galliford Try’s Specialist Services, who led the entry commented: “Our commitment to education and health and safety is the foundation of everything we do, and we want to maintain an environment where care for our people and those who work with us as a top priority.
