The Gabalfa Youth Club and Community Centre in Cardiff, a vital community hub offering a safe and supportive environment for young people supported by Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West business welcomed a visit from Eluned Morgan, the First Minister of Wales.

Among the dignitaries present were Councillor Sarah Merry, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, and Councillor Ash Lister, Cabinet Member for Social Services. They were accompanied by Dawn Jevons, Regional Community and Social Impact Manager from Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West, as well as representatives from Cardiff Youth Services and Cardiff Commitment.

The First Minister's visit showcased a range of transformative projects undertaken at the centre, including the Youth Club and Wellbeing Room, a new Music and Multimedia Room, Unify Subway Project, and Horsebox Café.

Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West has been collaborating with local youth at the Horsebox Cafe to fit out the café based on their ideas and aspirations. Profits generated from the café will be reinvested back into supporting youth programmes at the club.

Galliford Try's involvement underscores their commitment to fostering social value within the local community as part of the broader Guildford Crescent development in Cardiff, a build-to-rent scheme that aims to create 272 one and two-bedroom apartments as well as providing retail spaces on the ground floor.

Simon Courtney, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West, said: “By fostering a network of support and engagement, the combined efforts of these stakeholders not only enhance the availability of services but also empower young individuals to develop their skills and pursue their aspirations in a supportive environment. As the partnership among local officials, community leaders, and youth workers continues to thrive and evolve, the Gabalfa Youth Club is set to become an even more vital resource for the young people of Cardiff.”
