Galliford Try's Building Southern business marked the successful completion of the first phase of the refurbishment of Dorking Halls, a historic entertainment venue in Surrey, with a grand reopening ceremony.
The event was marked by a red carpet and ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by dignitaries from Atkins Realis, Mole Valley District Council, and other key stakeholders, who gathered to celebrate the collaborative effort that has restored this beloved community hub.
The historic venue of Dorking Halls has served the community in Surrey since 1931 for more than 85 years offering a wide range of entertainment; including comedy shows, opera, cinema screenings, pantos and theatre productions.
Following a £2.9m refurbishment, the first phase of works included the replacement of the Grand Hall's ceiling, removal of old redundant plant and associated ductwork, new Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MHVR) and ventilation system to the masonic hall, replacement of acoustic fabric to masonic hall and a new wireless fire alarm system throughout the building.
With its doors now open once more, Dorking Halls is eager to welcome back audiences and is set to feature a busy lineup of events, including the anticipated Christmas Pantomime production of Sleeping Beauty this year.
Gavin Bridge, Managing Director for Building Southern, said: “We are proud to have played a key part in preserving the history and magic of Dorking Halls, and we can't wait to see it come alive with performances and events in time for the festive season, ensuring that the community can enjoy this iconic venue once again."
