Members of Galliford Try’s Building East Midlands team were joined by dignitaries from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Onley Prison Services and G4S, to mark the early progress at the new HMP Rye Hill project, near Rugby.
The visitors, who included James Smith, Deputy Director & SRO: PFi Prison Expiry & Transfer at the MoJ, were there to witness the progress being made so far, and take part in a special ceremonial lift, with the first section of the new houseblock being put into place.
The £95m project includes the creation of a new three-storey, 458-bed houseblock at the facility, as well as a new healthcare unit, workshops and teaching spaces. Additional facilities include a multi-faith building, a new activity centre and an extension to the existing visitor centre.
Steven Ripp, Custodial and Judicial Director for Galliford Try, commented: “The HMP Rye Hill scheme is set to become a flagship project both for our business and the wider sector. It was great to be able to invite the MoJ onto site to see the early progress we have made, and I look forward to working with them and the wider stakeholders to create a high-quality facility for the custodial estate.”
James Smith, said: “The expansion at HMP Rye Hill is a key part of our commitment to deliver 20,000 additional prison places. The project is a really good example of collaboration across multiple suppliers and partners and it’s great to see excellent progress being made on site.
