Galliford Try’s Infrastructure business has held an event with client National Highways and local stakeholders to mark the long-awaited start of construction on the A47 route.
The £300m project has been delayed due to ongoing court processes in recent years but has now been greenlighted to go ahead with the first new section from North Tuddenham to Easton underway.
This first phase will upgrade the A47 between North Tuddenham and Easton in Norfolk to a dual carriageway, completing a dual carriageway between Norwich and Dereham, supporting economic growth and easing congestion in the area.
An event featuring the Mayor of Breckland Council Keith Gilbert and Councillor Graham Plant from Norfolk County Council welcomed the official commencement of the full construction works on the project, alongside Matt Stafford, Regional Delivery Director for National Highways.
Julie Crawford, Operations Director for Galliford Try, commented: “We are delighted to be able to begin the works in earnest on this much-needed scheme, that will bring improvements to the lives of people in the local area. National Highways is a key partner for our business and we look forward to working with them on this and the further phases of the A47 project.”
